We thought that my older dog was a collie cross, but have since seen a picture of a welsh sheepdog and it looks exactly the same as her, are there any breeders of these in England?

Hi satincollie and everyone, went to look at this site, as I am interested in getting a working bearded collie( few and far between)
While reading the gen on Bearded Collies, I was amazed to find that in the USA, they will castrate pups as young as eight weeks old
Anyone got comments on this idea? Bye for now

The world is full of good intentions! I'm sure someone has a good reason for this but I cannot believe that either this or spaying before the first season is good for the dog. Maybe I'm just a doddering old duffer but there we are!!

I'am in favour of spaying and neutering but not at 8 weeks I for one think that it is far too young. IMO.

Hello John, this has just had an airing in DW as A. Morley wrote a piece discussing thisthis, with several responses. It seems some vets here are following the USA in this. Sacrilege to me, a puppy cannot possibly have finished growing. Its like giving my 8 year old daughter a hysterectomy. Did you get my message that i now do microchip implants. Off to do some in switzerland, and see Quillas son in ZurichBack end of the month. Stevie.

Hi Stevie, I know that in the States the idea is a compulsory our endorsement "Not for Breeding" but I cannot believe it's in the dogs interest and to me that should be the bottom line.
Yes, I did see your post and received your email, I answered lower down the board. Am intending to have a word at club and sound out feeling.
Have a good time in Switzerland
Best wished, John

CONGRATULATIONS john on your placing at the game fair..and qualifying for a further event by coming second..way to go...good luck.
I heard from polly about the flatcoat folk saving a pretty young lady Borzoi on the Wycombe main drag on the way home from the game fair. On her own...lucky she is not being scraped off the main road.
Quillas son is not a real flatcoat. there are 2 oak tables untouched in the kitchen , rafia chairs with rafia still on them , plants still in their pots, persian rugs unpiddled on , Bechstein grand unplayed by muddy paws, no holes in the lawn ,he is as ordered and clean as the rest of switzerland.
Did training in french. got my french back up to par. marche vite , marche lentement. Thought 1 and half hours too long for pups tho even 8 wk old socialising and noises etc doing that amount too,.the trainer was good tho and very interesting.

Definitely not a Flatcoat Stevie!!! Although knowing his grand mother nothing supprises me. She was far to grand to soil her paws on tatty old Persian Rugs! Even the pheasants had to be washed first!!!
Best wishes, John

If you are interested in real working Beardies & not KC bred Obedience Beardies(there is a difference)
There are puppies sometimes advertized in Farmers Duardian i think most of the breeders are in scotland or Wales

Hi Deejay, I have been in touch with Brian Plummer, author, and THE man for real working beardies. What a real gentleman! However, he lives in real rural Scotland, and I live in Essex. An awful long way to go!! Still, if I have to, then I have to.
There is a man who lives about tenty minutes from me, who recently had real working beardie pups for sale.(Parents -Brian Plummer bred) Asking price £700!
Ha Ha, for a technically non pedigree dog.
Brian Plummers price per pup, approx £150. What makes you think my local neighbour, didnt want any "competition" lol Bye for now.

Hi Phillippa
The Beardies I've seen were from an old farmer in Wales & ISds registered & therefore pedigree dogs
When I finally give up work I intend to get a working ISDS registered Beardie & register him(I prefer dogs)with the KC just to see what breedd they consider he is. According to what I was told at Crufts years ago he will be a BC!1 as ALL dogs registered with the ISDS are BC's according to the KC I'm I wicked or what!
There is a lady on the obedience circuit who breeds "working"Beardies but these are all KC bloodlines so not really "working" although they do well in obedience!

Hi Phillipa
Ask Brian to put you in touch with Col. Hancock..........he's your man!
Also try Countrymans Weekly as they are always promoting the working beardie. (I, like Brian [$ the Col. work as a freelance for CW.)])

Hi Sam, sorry for the delay in replying, only just seen your post.
Igot one of my lurchers form David Hancock, greyhound x beardie.
He lost his last beardie recently, and has a beardie bitch on loan from Brian.
However he has already been waiting for nearly a year for her to come in season, but I have had my name on his list, for nearly that long , so might be lucky there.
I get CW every week for the lurchers, shows etc, I really enjoy it. Thanks again

Hi
There is a welsh sheepdog society & the have a website on the internet
They register older dogs & puppies on working abilityI believe. Has your older got any of Bing Bellamy's Sealight breeding behind her? As they resemble small Welsh Sheepdogs
By John
Date 14.07.01 21:13 UTC
The Sealight's really were the Working Sheepdogs to have in obedience a few years ago. Can't be many of us left who remember them back in the late 70's and early 80's!

Hi John
Just Showing my age I guess
I had a Welsh Sheepdog in the early 70's bred in Wales & I competed in Obedience with her
Everyone thought she was a Sealight ! But she was pure working breeding !
Those were the days !
