Topic Dog Boards / General / clarification
- By clutha [gb] Date 11.09.05 20:06 UTC
Regarding the discussion around the thread from a visitor wanting to breed from a white shepherd.
No interest in colour politics myself, nor the arguements in the thread, but as I have (and still do) worked in rescue centres for 10 years, I would like to clarify/correct (??) 2 points that came up:
(assuming i havent misunderstood, please feel to correct me if i have)

Black labs are common in rescue.
Chocolate labs are rare.
Black and tan short hair GSD's are very common in rescue.
SH/LH white or black GSD's are rare.

My rescue has had about 40 short hair black and tan GSD's over 10 years and 5 whites (or off white).
One of the whites was nervous
About half of the black and tans were nervous and/or defensive, to varying degrees.
None of the GSD's of any colour suffered anymore or less genetic health problem.
Oder ones of both colours had weak hips.

We have 2 very long term very agressive black Labs
We have had about 20 friendly black labs over 10 years.
We have had about 5 friendly chocolate labs over 10 years.

Cant remember who rose which point or why, but as this bit of the thread is my only interest and is actually my profession, these were the only points that jumped out to me, and that i noticed didnt quite ring true.

Thank you,

clutha.
