Here I am again, did you see the 'To the rescue ' article dog world? it refers to Doberman Rescue LTD. I always thought these were voluntary, can you been a limited company too or have I read it wrong ? ( senior moment again) :)
Dobermann Rescue Ltd set themselves up as a limited company a few years ago. There are, I beleive tax benefits in becoming a limited company and other rescues are following suit. Others become charities but I understand they can only obtain charitable status if they take in any dogs and not specific breeds.

Hi Christine,There are a few labrador rescues which are registered charities, the only off putting thing about is you need a committee and to be honest you get a lot of squabbling and arguing and then one person usually does all the work.Thats what I have found anyway, but Lab rescue South east is a charity and seem to work very well they have a dedicated number of people involved,I find it hard to keep anyone interested in helping here, although I have two trusty helpers at present .Just was wanting more info on the LTD company you must have to turn over a certain amount of money a year and thats not easy in rescue.Something never known of before was bouncing cheques but Ive had another this week and thats about ten in the last year :(
