I'm toying with the idea of buying a new hoover. I quite fancy the dyson cylinder dc108, animal. Can anyone recommend it, or a good alternative. I want a cylinder type.
It's needed for 2 very hairy labs and a family. I had a Henry before which was quite good but is now about 15 years old and although it still works, it absolutely stinks!!
Thanks for any views

I've just upgraded my Dyson DC01 to a Dyson DC14 Animal. Best move I've ever made, it's fantastic and the house feels clean!

Miele Cat and Dog, cheaper than a Dyson, german which means it never breaks down and if you look up Which? reports, outperforms the Dyson too
try a SEBO very good for dog hair

Hi
I bought a Miele Ruby (think that it's the same as the cat and dog). Very good as we have 6 OES Only fault I find with it is that you do get a lot of hair when using the turbo brush which you have to untangle with scissors but other than that I think that it's great. PS Bags are quite small so need replacing often.

Yep Animal Dyson here too!
After going on about how good dysons are the last time hoovers were discussed, I managed to blow mine up last month ( the dyson that is lol ). :-(
Did i get another one?..... nope thought i'd try a cheaper one this time after folk said they found others better. I bought a morphy Richards ultralight cyclone (approx£80) got a spare washable filter with it, its bagless and its purple ( fav colour lol)
Opinion.... well i think its fab, i'd swear it pulls more dirt out than the dyson did :D
one thing dyson dont say is what watt power their machines are ( i couldnt find out anywhere) the M R is a 1600w variable and i do think it sucks alot better than dyson.
Thanks to those who love there cheaper machines i too am very happy now. Plus if i do blow this one up, it wont hurt the pocket so much either :D :D
Edited to add no problems with longer doggy hairs either :-)
Hi
We bought a dyson animal (Cylinder type) and personally thought it was rubbish,(Already owned DCO4 upright)after hoovering you could still see a thin layer of hair on the carpet) in fact I emailed them and to their credit they sent someone out next day, I explained that I didnt think it lived up to its name...Animal. they checked it all over and the chap admitted that the Upright was by far the best out of the two as the cylinder type uses some of its suction to turn the brushes whereas the upright one has a motor to turn the brush so no suction is lost. The animal is ok on hard floors etc., but personally found it a waste of time on carpets and in the car.

I have an upright Dyson and at first was impressed but with further use I found I had a film of hair on the carpet and had to resort to hands and knees with a slicker brush. I dont find the brushes very effective and a serious factor as you use it regularly is the weight, its like a tank, it weighs a ton!
I recently bought a "cheapie" Electrolux petlover and my carpets are the best I've seen them for ages. Its much lighter and I can replace it 4 more times for the price of the Dyson.
