i am looking for a campervan we had a caravan but due to my OH disability i find it hard to move the caravan into our space to store etc, and i find sometimes i could not hitch up and just little things that where getting me down when caravaning, so we decided to start and look for a camper van, the thing is we don't want to spend a huge amount and we are even willing to do a project up over the winter but we are stuck on what type to get, i have 2 border collies a rottie and a english bull terrier and chinese crested we do agility, flyball, breed, obedience so we are away quite a lot from april till the end of august time, so does any one have a campervan and what do they find bad about it and what do you find good, i would like all the pros and cons before we make a final decision.
thanks in advance Carol

We had a VW camper van for about 5 years.

Pro's      Easy to set up camp, especially if you arrive late at night.
Great for one day shows, amazing how many friends you collect with the kettle on all day ;)

Con's     Expensive to run.
Not easy to pop out to the shops etc.
Very cosy, two adults and dogs, awning a must for overnight stays
No shower unless it is a very large van

We made a mistake and bought an old van with a new conversion.  The conversion was great, but the van cost us a fortune to keep on the road.  It is not easy to find a secondhand one that does not look like a rugby team has lived in it.

Over a caravan I would have one everytime, but it can be a pain if you are using it as your everyday vehicle too.  I think it will be worth splashing out on as new a one as you can afford unless you know the full history.  Probably worth an AA or RAC check too.  We found out to our cost the van had abused as a works vehicle, although with the respray it had had you would not have known.

Good luck in your search, just be careful
Sandra
