Have you ever tried the egg test with your retriever, who is supposed to be soft-mouthed?  Give them an egg to hold on to, or to take somewhere, and if they crack it they fail the test.  Jet failed, I guess, because she dropped it on the way to DH.  Good thing DH does not hunt her as the cripples would probably get away if she's going to drop them.  Can never try this test on her again, either, as now she knows what eggs taste like.  LOL

I have tried it with two of my cockers - only 1 passed ;-)

All my dogs can do/have done this and have done it in races too.

I'd like to try this with my lab.  How far should they be able to carry it without dropping it to be classed as passing this test?

All of mine can do this!  We have to watch out because we have chickens and if I collect the eggs and put them down in the garden, they tend to go and I then find them in all sorts of places.

We've taught all of ours to retrieve using eggs.

To date, we've never had one broken.  I dread the day when we do because all mine love raw egg, but at the moment they haven't connected the two!

My Dobe carries the egg in his mouth for a bit then throws it on the concrete to break and eats it :-)

I couldn't find anything on rules as to time or distance.  Couldn't find anything on races either.  Maybe Tohme can help?

These are generally put on by fun days etc like the retrieve a sausage race etc
