My girl is on day 42, I have just order a tub of whelpi ready for the pups, for hand rearing if needed or to mix with dry food when weaning. On the tub it says to give to bitch throughout pregnancy, she hasn't had any up until now, does anyone feel that she needs it and I should start giving her some now. By needs it I mean do most people give it to their bitches when in whelp?

Many thanks for any help.
Lynn

Hi, We bought a tin of Lactol for the same purpose and again it states that can be given to bitches in whelp and whilst lactating. I make up 500mls per day and offer it to her. I find that if she turns her nose up at other foods she will always take drink of this, at least I know she is getting some nourishment.

hi its a serving suggestion like you get on human foods. i think they say it just incase people wish to give it to there dogs instead of saying dont give it if you see what i mean. i had skinners puppy milk (have used lactol b4) for my girl and pups and i gave her it the odd 1 or 2 times during pregnancy and the pups have had it a few times during weaning. i also give my adults dogs some during the winter on cold mornings as a bit of a change in with there normal biscuit(although i give them less biscuit when it is added as the milk has alot of energy in it).they all enjoy it. and of course for them the mix isnt as strong as recommended on the tin.

i hope this helps.

I've got loads of Whelpi 1.5kg left as my bitch won't drink it!!!! I tried her during pregnancy and after and she still won't drink it.

Thanks all, I had this dreadfull thought that my poor girl had been starved of some highly nutritional requirement that I should have been giving her throughout her pregnancy. Still now I know I think I will try her on some tomorrow as a little treat. Hopefully she'll like it.

Many thanks Lynn.
