Surely it is not right for a reputable breeder to breed 1 litter straight after another, from the same bitch?

The breeder we got our little bundle of joy from has told us that he intends to breed her bitch again as soon as she is in season (which is pretty soon)
The bitch only had her last litter in April of this year... How cruel for the poor girl.

There was nothing wrong with her last litter (we got our pup from this litter)
The bitch produced 7 healthy pups, which have all gone to various homes as pets and I believe as show dogs too.

Will the KC register these puppies?

I realise that it costs a fair bit to have a litter of puppies (vets bills, feeding etc)
But I am under the impression that this man is just doing it for the money, I always thought that he was such a nice person.... perhaps I am wrong.
he is well known in his breed circle too.

I personally dont know much about breeding, but I know I would not like to give birth again and again.....

This same bitch has now had 5 litters in 6 years, should I report this to somebody or keep my nose out?

Unless the bitch has very long inter season cycles, or only had a singletone puppy and it was crucial to mate on this season for some reason(like the availability of the stud), then I would think this was excessive.  The Kennel Club will register up to six litters, but many breed clubs in breeds that have litters of that sort of size would consider 3 to 4 litters as a maximum, and have Codes of Ethics that state this, also that there shoudl be a clear season between litters except in exceptional circumstances.

What is the age limit to register a litter with the KC.  I thought it was 6 so if the bitch has had 5 litters in 6 years then surely that would put her over the age limit being that she should have been 2 for the first litter.  Could be wrong tho.

The upper age limitfor the KC to accept registration is  8 unless you get prior permission from them

Yes the KC will register litters from every season, up to a maximum of six litters per bitch.

Except from breeders that are required to be licensed (those deemed breeding commercially or having five or more litters in any 12 month period) where there must be 12 months clear between litters.
