Morning all,
Now this isn't really a big problem but seeing as your all more knowledgable than my vet, I thought that i'd run it by you first.
I own a GSD (3 years old). He has always had slightly raised veins in his face, nothing too unusual though. Around one to two weeks ago a fair sized lump appeared under his eye (around the size of a penny) I thought that it was probably a sting and treated it as so (couldn't find a sting in the lump though). The lump had gone within 36 hrs (ish). Last night I noticed another pea sized lump slightly lower on his face, same side though. If you hold the lump between your fingures it can be moved slightly. What other causes could there be for these lumps, they seem quite suspicious, as if they are a gland infection or something simular.

Years ago a dog of mine (Boxer) got a small lump under his eye which disapeared then came back in a different spot.
He had a grass seed which had entered though the eye and then enbedded itself in his face. As there could be 101 reasons for whats happening to your dog I am not saying its the same but if it starts to swell get him to the vets. My dog was quite ill with this by the time i realized and had to have an op to remove it. His whole head was twice the normal size just overnight with the build up of fluid.

Just a bit of a tip in case of stings or simlar you can get something called apis mel I think its bee venom from the health shop and it is very good my lab bitch had been poking around in some bushes and shortly after her head and face seemed to swell to twice the size and I was advised to use this and it worked

Naomi, could it be a caused by a puppy tooth? If they are playing a bit rough, a quick bite can leave a raised lump that takes a while to go down :-)

That is possible Leigh, they play fight non-stop. The only thing is there is no mark on his skin. Kieras teeth are big now and would probably leave quite a mark. He becomes very uncomfortable when these lumps are touched but they don't last long. I guess that it's just one of those things that can be ummed and ahhhed about all day. All I wanted was reasurrance that it wasn't anything serious and if it was, I would imagine that one of you on here would have come across it by now.
Thanks all,
Naomi

Sometimes you don't get a mark just a lump, but it would feel bruised to touch :-)

Infected saliva glands cause lumps on the face.

Although it costs money it is often cheaper to get a vet to check a problem out earlier rather than later when a problem may have intensified.
