my GSD pup is 4 months old and is very well behaved in the home.
he dosnt bark or run riot. i am able to leave him alone having full run of down stairs and when i come home nothing is touched and he is clean.

he is just very mellow and laid back, many people comment on how nice natured he is. some people say it is becasue i am very laid back and it has brushed off on him, dont know if its true but my daughter is also quite for a 2 year old as well.

i have met a few doggy people who said that there pups destroyed the house as pups, and could not be left, even if confined to one room.

when i come home from being out, benji is sleeping behind the frount door.

what i was wondering is, if he hasnt started to chew furnature now , is he likely to once his hormones come through?

is it connected to hormones?

Don't jinx yourself benji's mom! :p

My take on chewing up furniture is because of boredom. He is a puppy and loves sleeping , as they get older they'll love sleeping as well but won't need it as much. He MAY wake up , find himself bored and start chewing on a cushion but this usually starts off as a puppy behaviour and branches.

He may find himself getting introuble once he hits his teens (which will be soon) , i highly recommend crate training but if my facts are right you are a stay athome mom caring for your daughter so he isn't alone for long. Good Luck!

You may just be lucky but don't pat yourself on the back just yet. :) One of my bitches didn't touch a thing until she was 6 months old, then she proceeded to eat the house until she was 15 months. It wasn't hormonal as she didn't come into season until she was 18 months. The worst thing about it was that she passed the chewing 'gene' down to every one of her offspring in a breed that is not usually destructive.

yes i am a stay at home mum as i care for my disabled daughter full time. benji gets left on his own for about 2 hours a week. i say alone , but he has the cats for company and they do play.
i think if i did not have the cats he would feel compleatly alone and may get anxious. i always leave the t.v on for him. he does have his own area where he can go to get away from us all when he wants a break. and that area is in the kitchen. we used to shut him in the kitchen when we went out, the whole free run of down stars was a gradual thing we introduced when we were hoem with him.

Hi Benjismum

My little GSD is approaching 4 months and I must admit He is a little angel, so well behaved and i have the same thoughts as you...is it too good to be true, will it last.  He does have a crate which he took to from day one, so he sleeps in there all night and for his daily naps.  I dont work so he has me most of the time byut obviously I have to go out sometimes without him, he never cries or anything, he is a little angel.  I do have another 7 yr old GSD but i dont ever leave them together as she is still a bit jealous of him.  But I am wondering how long this angelic behaviour will last.  He loves training and has learnt sit, down and will also stay for a short while.  I am hoping all this mental stimulation will keep him  on the "Straight and narrow" but we will wait and see!
