Topic Dog Boards / Health / Removed dew claw
- By kirsty [gb] Date 05.09.05 20:29 UTC
My girl had to have her dew claw removed on friday she caught it whilst out for a walk and the vet said it looked red and inflamed so gave her a antibiotic injection which lasted till sunday and that should clear the infection and to take her back today, she went back this morning and the vet said she has a infection in the bone and gave her more antibiotics and she has to go back again next week. Could anyone give me any advice on this sort of infection? Will it cause any long term problems? i have been told it can take up to 6 weeks to clear the infection. None of my dogs have ever had anything like this so any help would be much appreciated.

How did he come to the conclusion she had an infection in the bone?  did he give her an xray or is there still plus coming out do you think it looks red and inflammed?

Warm regards Susan

No he didnt xray, it is quite red and swollen and shes still in quite abit of pain. He said the antibiotic injection he gave her would of cleared the infection but as it hasnt he said it must be in the bone because that takes longer to heal. Should i be worried> Is there anything i can do to help her? She also had abit of a temp this morning when the vet took it.
