Hi all, we have been thinking about getting a Bulldog for some time now - have done a lot of research on the internet and they seem like a great choice for a family pet, I thought I would take the time to ask you experienced doggy people if you have any information, pros, cons etc. It would seem that they are quite 'relaxed' dogs that do not like a lot of exercise and would rather have a cuddle, if anyone has one I would love to hear your stories.
We have had a staffie before which sadly died 12 months ago and now feel like its time to start again.

Many thanks.

I agree with Carolyn, you will see plenty of pictures and you can speak to lots of Bulldog breeders on there and we are all very friendly. One warning though, once you go on to the site and see the pictures and learn all about them you will definately want one :-D they are a very addictive breed and will give you more love than you could ever imagine.

Hi Carolyn
I'am a new owner of 6mth olde tyme bulldog bitch having a few problems with her

1 She won't bark at the door
2 When friends come round she is a nightmare so in the end i have to lock her away which breaks my heart as she was bought as a family
3 After her run in the park i can't get her back on the lead but if i take her to somewhere new she is as good as gold
4 Apart from that any info on my baby would be lovely thanks

Hi Simonne

At 6 months she is still a baby and to be honest i wouldnt worry about her not barking at the door at least its peaceful :-)

Have you tried keeping her on a lead when you have visitors and ask them not to fuss her and just ignore her, then only reward her (softly) when she has settled down, then let her off the lead but if she is naughty put her back on her lead (no fuss or shouting just gently),no matter what anyone else thinks i really do think dogs need to learn to think, well if i do such and such then this happens, after all who on here hasnt been trained by our dogs ;-)

Keep her on an extendable lead while teaching her recall and reward her when she comes back, make it an amazing hugging session and a crafty treat so she is pleased to be with you, when she is doing it on an extendable you could invest in a horse lunge line  and do it with more distance between you.

But being a bulldog she could just be the ignorant stubborn monsters that we love bulldogs for being.
There are quite a few forums now for the other types of bulldogs im sure mollmoo (excuse me if I have the name wrong) will point you in the right direction.

Best of luck with Lola.
