Hi everyone,

We have a Boxer and she is wonderful. We have been training, and through a lot of hard work, she has become such a wonderful loving dog, and very well behaved.

Anyway the last couple of weeks, she has turned into a nightmare, never listens, and chews everything!

Do you think she is going through the teenage stage??

Please help

Thanks.

Know the feeling, we have taken on a rescue boxer who when we first had her was great with other dogs and people, now she goes for every dog and is not beyond taking a snap at people as well.   She is now chewing everything as well, she will be two in November and she was 7 months when we got her.  She could not love her family any more including the other dogs she lives with but i am pertrified that she will bite someone.  We were shortlisted for that new programme its me or the dog but they decided that she would be more then they could cope with as they wanted positive outcomes on this programme!!

I do believe that your boxer will grow out of the chewing stage, i know our other dogs did and do believe it is a phase that they go through.

We tried obedience with ours but when she started to bark at everything we were asked to come back when she was better behaved as she was putting everyone else off, which although i can understand the fact that a barking dog is a pain it sort of contridicts the fact that you are trying to teach your dog to behave in the first place.

Our pup is 6mnths in a week and she seems to be going backward at the moment rather than forwards, she has started nipping again round ankles etc and hands to gain attention which we try to ignore sometimes a bit hard though and you have to yell no at her quite loudly for her to sit up and listen and the jumping up well thats a trial all on its own, when out if you see people comng or children you have to put the leash on as she loves people and will bound up to them and I am afraid she will knock someone over so we have to introduce while on the lead, but dont despair I am sure that hard work and consistency work and when I think about it the naughty times are only maybe 20 mins out of a whole day its just that it seems longer and you feel you have been knocked back,I try to focus on the positive things she does in a day which do actually outweigh the negative and makes me realise I am not doing such a bad job after all and she is really quite a good dog, rather large and and expected far more out of for her age.Seems a bit strange about the training class asking you to go back when she is better behaved, seems a bit of a contradiction,we dont have any decent training classes here at all.(hope your dog is a she) if not apologies.

Stick with it, stand by your training methods  and try and minimise her chance to chew by more stimulation such as kongs and hide the toy etc and it will pass ;)

Be firm but lots of praise when she is being good and you should get by the 'Kevin' stage very soon :D
