Our beautiful 7 month old cocker spaniel who has slept downstairs in a cage since we bought her home at 12weeks has just started barking at 12 - 1a.m. - We recently went on holiday for two weeks and we left her with a friend who didn't like to put her in the cage. We've had her home for less than a week and she started barking on the 3rd night - we went and checked on her and she settled back down after about 20mins however she is doing it again tonight and has been barking for the last hour!! Have been down and let her out for a wee did not give her any fuss and put her back in cage - shall I continue to ignore even tho barking is keeping me awake and driving me nuts - if anyone is awake and can reply would be grateful!!! - sorry despite trying to join this website haven't been able to as something to do with cookies!

Hi Guest, probably not going to be much help here, as questions need answered 1st. Did you friends allow pup to come up to bedroom with them or was she simply allowed free run of a particular room on her own. If it is the former, it may be that the pup is now expecting to be allowed to sleep with human company. If the latter then possibly has decided that a comfy chair was preferable to her own bed.
If you can try and tolerate the barking for a few more nights, she may well settle back into her old routine. Its not uncommon for a simple change in routine to unsettle a dog and as with all things takes a little time to revert back.
I'm sorry that I cant be of much help to you, but I do hope that you manage to get some sleep.
