Hi all, My RR bitch has just had her first season, she is 8 months old. We were entered for our first show at Richmond but i dont think wewill be able to go. She started bleeding around the 17th August and is still dripping now more than before. The show is on 10th September?? Do you think it would be wise to give it a miss, i wouldnt want to upset all those male RR owners!!!
Im so gutted i was really looking forward to it. We have only attended 1 companion show, i loved it and She got placed 1st in puppy 6-12 months, BPIS and BIS. This was going to be our first proper show?

If her first day was 17th August she ought to be finished by 10th September, that's 4 weeks apart, but you will have to check very carefully to be sure that is the case, and that she isn't having a particularly long one. Wash her very thoroughly round that area too to make sure she doesn't give off any lingering scent. Good luck!

I agree she should be clean and dry by then, still go it is a champshow, and i'm sure she should have finished her season, as Lucy said just give her a good bath and dont let her pee by any of the males, or let any near her either.

warm regards Susan

We dab a little dettol on cotton wool around the rear end when returning to training after a season seems to do the job!

The only thing I will say is that the bum sometimes takes longer to go down.  Some dogs do also bleed for a lot longer.  Purdy has 4 weeks seasons whereas her daughters hardly bleed.  Fingers crossed she is dry as our bitch has just come into season and I really wanted her to show at Darlington in two weeks so we are stuffed.

Well its monday now and shes still bleeding and swollen up, she is standing for and playing up to my 3 yr old not entire male (poor beggar) he is very interested to say the least and the dog over the road continues to howl the street down. I have decided to give it a miss with her this time as gutted as i am about it, it wouldnt be fair to her or any of the others dogs there. Im still going to go but unfortunately with out my little lady, i will be dogless once again....Darn.Never mind at least we know it wont happen at Wales and LKA.
thanx all

Bad luck, sounds like she is one of those who has a long season. If she's still standing for dogs she doesn't sound like she'll be over it by the weekend. I shall have all that to look forward to when my puppy finally comes in!

If its any consolation we are having to miss Richmond for the same reason and also Darlington next week both shows I wanted to attend for different reasons.  Bitches and their seasons are a complete nightmare.  Some judges will forgive it some wont.  You never know she might have finished by the weekend.

Well the weekend is nearly upon us and i will be leaving wales tomorrow heading for Salisbury and onto Richmond on Saturday, i have decided not to risk taking Lexy. She is swollen and still dripping a watery/pinky,  not as much but still not clean enough to go. I will have to take my camera along and start snapping away with the other dogs. Hopefully we be a good day as i get to meet lots of fellow RR owners and RR.
Good luck to all going
