Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Stud Referral - advice

Yesterday evening a man 'phoned asking to use my dog at stud. A couple of minutes conversation revealed that not only is his bitch not particularly well bred but she is eight and a half years old! Obviously I told him that the pups could not be registered and even  if they could I would not for one second consider giving a stud to a maiden 8yo giant breed bitch even if she was the best bitch in the country. He took it quite well and we got to chatting. It turns out that he was only going to breed because he wants a pup himself. He was quite clear about what 'type' he wants (which he was unlikely to get from his present bitch regardless of the sire) and I was able to suggest some litters for him to look at.

So far, so good. But he was put on to me by another breeder who I thought was reptutable. The other breeder knew the age and pedigree of the bitch. Should I get on the 'phone to the other breeder and ask him why the fiddlesticks he thinks I'd allow my boy to be used over this bitch and why is he referring the bitch to anyone at all, or should I just cross him off my Christmas card list?

Perhaps he thought you'd do a better job at putting the bitch owner off?

I'd like to do that but if he defended referring the bitch to me I know I'd lose the bap. :(
