just wondered Is there a difference in size between working and show cockers? Recently I saw 2 cockers which were much larger than I've seen before and obviously very strong as there owner was having difficulty with them pulling on their leads,They were both quite stocky and 1 in particular quite tall, if not then would there be any other reason why they seemed much bigger and stronger than average? - just curious thats all!

Whilst there is often some variation in size of pedigree dogs, unfortunately not all dogs are bred by breeders who aim to conform to breed standards, and consequently you will also see huge Yorkshire terriers, Westies and other breeds. This is why posters on the site recommend finding a responsible breeder through the breed clubs, sadly the price of a non standard puppy is often as much or more than a puppy bred to breed standard.
Could they have been field spaniels they are larger than cockers?
Working and show do vary in size!

I've got a working springer who is half the size of my friends show springer. I also have two working cockers who are quite small and easy to pick up! They are smaller than some and bigger than others but the main difference I am aware of in comparison to show cockers locally is that they aren't as stocky (or fat! :o). They are both lean and slender.
