hey my 7yr old terrier has yesterday starting doing a horrible choking noise, he is not coughing or wretching, its just like he cant breathe! its only when he gets excited and i walk him. any ideas? cant feel or see anything obstructing air ways, although thats what it sounds like!

He could have kennel cough which is exacerbated by exercise/excitement however it is advisable to have him checked over by your vet as other more serious conditions can present in a similar manner.

Regards, Teri

Please leave your dog in your car when you take him to the Vet.  Kennel cough is extremely contagious and can be dangerous to old, young and sick dogs.  Otherwise fit 'middle aged' dogs tend to cope with it we cope with 'flu!

He could be doing what's known as 'backwards sneezing' ...

Hi i agree with Jeangenie i've got to west highland terriers and they do a backward cough quite alot, and there not suffering with kennel cough.  To hear it you would think somethings wrong but it's just a backward cough.

Warn regards Susan
