our border terrier pup has gone off his food, and is only having a couple of mouthfuls when we are feeding him,we have tried removing the food after 20 mins, but this doesn't seem to be making any differance either.
he's fine in himself, still playing and enjoying his walks,he is still drinking,
i am just concerned about the amount he is eating a mouse couldn't live on what he is eating at the moment,
has anybody got any ideas please

Hi tazsmum
From one BT owner to another!! Our pup (now 16 wks old) seems to go off his food when the weather is very hot (good example is today!!!). When we first got him, he hardly ate anything for the 1st couple of days - it was very hot then too - we virtually had to hand feed him!!

You don't say how old he is but if this is only recent (last couple of days) then the weather might have put him off eating. When it's like this I have to feed my bitch later on in the evening as she just loses her appetite. Hates the heat.
If this has been going on for some time then I would pop him down to the vets for a check up.
Our 5 month old is off her food and I put it down to the heat too so I feed her earlier than normal in the morning, give her some buscuits at lunch and dinner when it cools down a bit. Make sure that he drinks alot though
thanks everyone,it's only really been the last few days maybe it is down to the weather,he seems fine in every other way and he is drinking a far bit of water, not excessive though.

My litter of pups tiotally skipped their luchj yesterday and weren't interested in their dinner either, but their supper went down well as had the breakfst. They spent most of the day lying on the cool convret in the run which has shade all day. Only their lively playful selves from 6 to 9am, and after 7pm.

Many dogs go off their food with this hot weather. They tend to lie about and not exert much energy, so therefore the body is either too hot to eat or just doesn't need the energy. Just skip that meal and try them on the next meal. Often, if dogs don't eat is because they are just not hungry. Don't worry about it too much. As long as he gets some food down him every day and his stools are fine, then he will soon regain his appetite.
All the best,
Patty
