Our dog club is running a Fun Day later this year and I'm looking for ideas. We are having a Lurcher Show and hopefully a lure chasing course but it is the rest I need help with. We want some dog games like sausage race and musical chairs but need more. Any ideas for fun type classes and fund raising games. I'll say thanks now 'cause I know you won't let me down. Jackie H

Hi Jackie
How about pin the tail on the mockodile, sorry, Dobe !!
I'm sure Kerioak will be all in favour of that
Beth
The fastest recall can be fun - amazing how many dogs don't wait when their owners run away from them <g>
Sponsored stay ?

Is a lurcher a greyhound?
How about find the hidden treats? Or tug of war dogs vs. owners (with mud of course!);) :D

Sorry Butter, a lurcher was I belive a greyhound x collie but now days they seem to be greyhound or whippet crossed with all sorts, a lot look as if they have deerhound or wolfhound. They range in size from small whippet to greyhound and have smooth or rough coats. All I've met have been agreeable happy sorts and I believe are used for rabbit hunting. Jackie H

Recall past plates of sausages is a hoot!!!
Four dogs and handlers, plates with bits of sausage on between them, maybe 4 in a line, first dog to handler wins the heat.
One of mine only stopped at the first plate and then came to me straight past the other 3, but the gannet cross dog wandered up eating everything he could and so came last in his heat!

Hi Sas
This could cause a major pile up with strange (to each other) dogs running loose and food to guard - one dog at a time maybe <g>
Christine
I went to one where there was a 'fun' agility course. Also you can sometimes get the good citizen test run alongside other events. A photo booth where you can get key fobs and 'instant' gifts with pictures of you and your canine. A scurry type event is also great fun.

A pen full of tennis balls with numbers on, and which ever ball your dog picks up, if it has a winning number on it, you get a prize, you want to see the dogs faces when they go in, there eyes light up they dont know which ball to grab first.

What a brilliant idea Doggy Tombola ! will try it this year at our fun show for lab rescue. Thanks

Don't know about yours Jackie, but my Elkhounds wouldn't win any prizes in this one :D Now if it was a small furry or feathered creature with a number on, my Tula would bring it gently to hand! (alive of course). That is if she got there before her Mum and daughter who would not be so gentle!

No mine wouldn't bring a ball back, eat it yes, fetch it no way. Small furry, would corner it and look at me to see what I wanted to do with it, if I do nothing they lose interest. With the exception of Elli with mice, she would put a JR to shame but anything else she expects me to shoot.

A scurry is a race against the clock. They usually involve a retrieve being throw or items to be picked up (sausage & egg). The dog is then timed to see how quickly he can bring it back. The fastest dog wins. It can involve multiple retrieves/items and the dog could have to negotiate obstacles. Or in the case of the egg and sausage, not eat the sausage and not break the egg! It is a very popular event :-)

How about competitions like Prettiest Pooch, Handsomest Hound, owner who most looks like their dog (I can lend the TH to anyone who intends having a hangover), waggiest tail, etc.

Hi 9 th
We have a dog Fun day round here in May and I am going to enter the mockodile for most handsome dog and prettiest eyes :) (There isn't a category for biggest pain in the a**e!!)
I am also thinking of entering myself into prettiest bitch (or maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick!!:D)

When we entered a best pedigree class the judge asked what kind of dog the TH was. And he calls himself a vet
