what do you wean a puppy on ? and were do you buy it

Guest, I think you ought to register because I'm not sure what you mean. Did your bitch only have a single puppy? Most breeders start weaning their puppies at about 3 weeks of age, and by the time they're 7 or 8 weeks they're completely weaned - although their mum will still no doubt give them the occasional comfort suck.

I wean mine with scraped beef - I buy the beef at the butcher's and scrape it with a knife to get a smooth pulp - at that young age mince is too lumpy and stringy and can choke them.

I start them on finely minced beef from the butcher to give them the idea of eating solids then move quickly to a quality complete puppy food porridge made by whizzing the puppy food in a blender with some warm bitches milk substitute (Welpi/Esbilac from the vet/pet shop/on-line). As the pups get older the milk is reduced until they are only getting the dry puppy food.
