We have a cocker spaniel (bitch) and are considering getting a second dog. She is 3 years old. Would you recommend getting a bitch or a dog? We would be getting another cocker.

Thank you for your help (in advance).

Hi
I have Cockers of both sexes & all get on very well together. Obviously if your bitch has not been neutered, then getting an entire male would not be a terribly good idea, but if she has been neutered, then no reason why you should not get a male Cocker. On the other hand, there's no reason why you shouldn't go for another bitch either - most bitches get on perfectly well together too. Would you be looking to get an older dog or a puppy? Your existing bitch might find it easier to accept a puppy than another dog around the same age as her or older - in my experience, introducing a second dog into the household often works best if there is a decent age gap
between the first & second dog.

Hope this helps

Jane
