My puppy (a german shepherd) is currently 8 weeks (she will be 9 weeks on Friday). Her progress with toilet training has been brilliant (in the past 3 days she has had one accident in the house). We are lucky as both myself and my [artner work from home and so we can ensure that she is taken out regularly to go to the toilet, and at nearly 9 weeks she has even learned to take herself out into the garden to go to the loo if I am in the kitchen and the back door is open. Her current schedule is: we take her to the toilet and put her to bed at 12 midnight, keeping everything very relaxed and low key. She is crated at night, and is very comfortable in her crate, choosing to use it in the day time also when she wants a nap. We get up at 3am to take her out to the toilet. She is again crated and we get up again at 6 am to take her out to the toilet, before waking up to take her to the toilet and feed her at 8am. At the moment she is doing really well, and accidents are rare (in part because we are so strict about taking her out - my partner should take most of the benefit for this success). Although this may well be a 'how long is a piece of string' question, we were both wondering from what age she would be able to hold on so we would only get up once in the night (we were thinking of putting her to bed for Midnight, and getting up at 4 am for toilet before getting up for toilet and food at 8am). From what age does a pups bladder/bowel capacity improve?

It varies from dog to dog, in my experience, smaller breeds tend to take longer.  The only way you could find out is by setting the alarm for 3.30 one day, and see what happens......

Also, don't be surprised to discover that once the colder weather comes (and has it arrived already? :( ) that she seems to appear to go backwards in her training, because the door isn't opened and she doesn't know what to do - this is quite common in 'summer' puppies.  In this case, I would teach her a way of getting your attention, such as ringing a bell, rather than letting her bark, as she will quickly learn to bark to get your attention for any reason (why do they generalise so well with the things we don't want them to learn, and play dumb when we do want them to do the same in the park as they do in the garden........)

My puppy has very strong feelings about squatting on wet grass, which I can't really blame her for!  :-) On the other hand I have explained to her that the covered bit of patio is fine, but no! It's got to be either grass or the kitchen floor! She's improving steadily though. :-)

My puppy is 10 weeks old (cocker spaniel) and he's not doing quite as well as yours during the day although he's getting there, but he is dry at night... he goes in his crate around 10pm, and then hubby takes him out for a wee around midnight if he's at all fidgety, but if he's absolutely fasto, we leave him, and then we don't get up through the night at all (have done twice since we've had him when he's cried), but get up and take him out at 7am.  He has a big wee then comes inside, has his breakfast and then goes back outside for another toilet trip.

Your pup sounds like he's going brilliantly in the day.  Mine will just about go on command 'hurry up' and all his predictable toilet trips are outside i.e. after naps, play, food etc.  but he will do a wee in the house wherever he happens to be if the mood takes him and I'm not watching him at that moment LOL.
