Hi all,

Spice BC is changing colour? she was a black and white collie, with a little bit of brown between her toes and pads, but now she has a brown rear end and feathering down her back legs. The black and white coat is shiny and sleek, but the new growth of brown is dull? Her dad is a tri colour so I guess it's a gene thing?

The point is does anyone know why her brown coat should be dull and flat looking as she is brushed/groomed daily but no amount of brushing will make her shine all over :D :D and do you think she is likely to continue to change until all her 'highlights' show through :D she will be 2yrs in Oct. ( my how time flies! )

The brown tinging is quite common in Border Collies.  Mine has it on her rear featherings and tinges of it on her body.  She doesn't carry any red or tri colours.

It always looks worse in the summer as the sun tends to lighten it.  The tinges on her body are glossy, but rear featherings are usually dull anyway.

Mine is three and I don't expect they will go now.  I never noticed it in BC's before I saw it on mine, but looking around the show ring there are quite a few with it.
