Hi
I wonder if any of you can help. My bitch is currently in season (again, she is every 4 months - been checked out by vet tho) and her son is experiencing the 'feeling' for the first time, he has always been as normal when she has had seasons but now that he is 16 months he is obviously mature and knows what is going on however he is only acting a 'little' crazy now its her 12th day - obviously they are separated (one outside in kennel) and I do not let them see each other at all however I have heard that some people give their males something (not sure if it's herbal, something from vets etc) to help cam them down during this awful time for them.....does anyone know what it may be and where I could get it from?
He is howling in the morning and sometimes throughout the day but other than that he is just extreamly hyper, not tying to break doors down or anything ;)
Any info much appreciated :)
Kelly

The vet can give an injection of female hormones called Tardak, which is used to mimic castration/reduce the effects of his testosterone.
Oh right and how long does it take to have an effect?
if you have a male and give him the injection from the vet is there any side effects ? is it given only if he gets really stressed or do you give it at the bitches evey season ? is it expensive ? not bothered about cost just curious ive never heard of it before
I had the injection done on a male once, a few years ago now and I think it was about £25. It didn't work for him though ;-) I can't remember now but I'm sure he had 2 injections.

Hi
I have given my males valerian in the past to help calm them down whilst the bitches are in season.

Yep! All Chemists seem to do this sort of stuff these days, and very inexpensive too.

Ooh, I'll have to get my boy some of that. He's bad enough with the puppy that hasn't even had a season, god knows what he'll do when she comes in!!
