Topic Dog Boards / General / Pointer Puppy who "hops"

I hope someone out there might be able to put my mind at rest!  My 15 week old pointer puppy runs in a kind of hopping motion using both his hind legs in unison and has done since we got him at 10 weeks - Although we feel he is starting to run more normally im still a little concerned as I  have read that this could be a sign of hip dysplacia.  He isn't in any pain and trots correctly so i hope im worrying unnecessarily - He's my first puppy and we have no idea whether this is normal puppy behaviour!

Thanks

Totally untrue re. HD.  Many Spanish run like this especially when working and my dogs that do move like this have low hip scores.  Some in my breed that move beautifully and in a way that they should have higher hip scores :d

So what I'm trying to say is that you can't tell by movement alone whether a dog has HD :d

I agree about hips!! ;)  Might be worth having patellas checked though.

Nothing wrong with the patella's on our dogs!!  Know what slipping patella's like in Pom's though!

I reckon that yours hop because the way you clip them gives them a chill in their channel!!! :p (that's supposed to be 'stick tongue out'!!)
