hi i had a litter of springer spaniel pups we noticed one of the girls was'nt feeding off mum took her to the vets who told us she had a cleft she was badly dehydrated so he put some fluid back into her and told us the only hope was to hand try her on the bottle she was only a day old at the time and tiny
every day we expected to lose her but we gave her enough milk to keep her going we had weekly visits to the vets
when she was 9 weeks old she had an operation to repair the cleft she is nearly 5 months old now
eats anything and we love her dearly all the worrying was worth it
she still snuffles a little but she copes well her name is treacle

Hi glad to hear your girl is doing fine, i had a puppy many yrs ago who had a cleft pallet he also had the operation to rectify it and he made a fine healthy dog in the end.

Hi,
We also have a puppy with a cleft, her name is Honey (similar to your Treacle!) She can have her op any day now, but I am worried that something might go wrong in the op. At present she is eating well, and drinking. She is 15 weeks old, and the vet said the bigger the puppy, the easier the operation will be.  I have been given a 'rough' price of the op by my vet, could I ask how much yours was? (Not that money is an issue)

our vet was very good to us on her weekly visits we were rarely charged for the consultation
only if she needed medicines the operation cost 200 pounds which we thought very reasonable
that included daily visit to be tube fed we were worried she would not pull through but everything was
fine don't give up hope if you saw my baby today you would not think she was the same puppy
good luck with the operation
