Sorry this is about my cat so anyone not interested dont read on.
This moring my husband opened the door to find Jarvis our 9 year old beloved cat laid at the front door. He spoke to him and as he looked at him he noticed to his horror his eye was popping out all bloody. He tried to get up buut had no use in his back legs.
We took him strait to the vets that was 8am.
The vet said it looked like a car had hit him which is what we already thought. The vet did the usual of temperature, listened to heart, looked in his mouth.
He said he seemed stable but would lose his eye and he would x-ray him. THere is obvious damage to legs but not sure of the extent.
I have been waiting for a call for what seems ages, so I phoned the vets being told he had not yet been looked at but was the next on the list.
Poor Jarvis had been in the vets 3 hours and still not been seen. I know they are busy but I cant stand the thought of him laid in agony.
He is the most loving trusting cat I ever known everyone who sees him falls in love with him and everyone who visits us jokes about taking him home with them. He doesnt deserve what as happened to him.
Dont know why Im writing this here and now but if anyone can give me any clues advice or whatever Id be very greatfull.
Just now I cant think straight.

Sorry to hear about Jarvis Sharon. {{{Hug}}} I must admit I would be upset that he hadn't been seen yet :( Hope you get good news soon
Anne
I'm not a cat lover but definitely am sorry to hear about your cat, just because this isn't a cat board doesn't mean tht we're not interested to hear about all animals. I think most of us adore all animals.
Hope the news isn't too bad and that he's soon running around. Unfortunately vets don't do any x-rays etc. until after surgeries finished unless it's life and death so hopefully your cat is a strong one an dthey're not too worried about it.
Keep us up-to-date and I hope it all goes well.
Really sorry to hear what has happened to Jarvis. I lost my beloved ginger and white cat Simba last year to a RTA, a neighbour found him dead in the road, I was devastated! Then my other ginger and white boy went missing over 3 months ago, still haven't found him and in July I went on holiday only to come home to my devastated mum telling me that the lost cat's (Woody) sister black and white Daisy had been run over the morning I returned home, my male rottie found her in a bush - without him I may never have seen her again! I am gutted and its so hard having no cats around, I held on to Daisy for support and love after loosing my boys, she was my little shadow and always had a chat with me - I am lost without a cat but can't bear to loose another so won't.
I hope Jarvis pulls through as I know how much they can mean to you, they are as precious as kids - like dogs are too, not many people understand or sympathise when it is about a cat so I wish him a speedy recovery and hope you get a call back from the vets soon.
Take care, give him a hug from me xx
Not a cat lover but he is still your pet so that is all that matters really. Hope he is ok and pulls through alright. BTW he will have had a sedative at the vets so won't be in agony, I am sure he is dozing. <<<hugs>>>

Oh Sharon :-( i really do feel for you right now, i'm keeping everything crossed for you....and i'll keep you and Jarvis in my thoughts. Take care. love kerry xxxxxxxx
Thanks to you ALL for your kind words. Enfilrotts Jarvis is ginger and white too. We also have 2 other cats but hes my favourite. Sorry about your loss.
Vets phoned me not long after I posted. Seems like the only real damage is his eye. He as some pelvis damage but it should heal on its own in around 1 month.Got to keep him caged up most of that time. Its going to very hard doing that.
But Im just so glad with the outcome. Will pick him up from vets later today.
Sorry to hear about poor Jarvis, Sharon. But glad that the injuries aren't as bad as you feared.
Bet you can't wait to get him home :)
Good luck with the cage rest !!
Ah what a relief to hear that he is going to be ok,, I am sure he won't mind stopping in being spoilt all the time LOL! Good luck with it all, I am sure he will be more aware of the roads from now on ;)
Ahh, glad that it's nothing too serious!!

I am so sorry, good luck for his recovery, sounds like he'll be okay! :) Please everyone (and don't think I am having a go, I am saying this in the frindliest possible way! :) ) DO consider keeping cats INDOORS ONLY; or let them have, like we do, a fully enclosed run attached to the house. It is way too dangerous to allow cats outside like this, apart from being hit by cars, you can have them attacked by dogs, stolen, and that is not even to mention all possible health problems that can be caught from other cats -such as FIV and FIA for which there is *no* vaccine. We don't let our dogs out unsupervised and we don't need to do it with cats either..... They can be perfectly happy anyway, and safe. Apart from my pedigrees (and most pedigree breeders would never sell a kitten to a home where it was allowed to go out unsupervised) I have 2 rescued mogs that had been outside for quite a while by the time I got them. Both are perfectly happy indoors now and don't miss the outside life at all, so even adult mogs CAN be re-trained.

How I agree with you Marianne!
When I had kittens, I would always tell prospective owners to treat their cats as they would their dogs: responsible owners wouldn't dream of opening the front door and letting the dog out on its own, but cat owners would! Cats just cannot cope with the amount of traffic that is increasing every day, and sadly there are more and more cats being involved in accidents.

To be honest I tried to keep my cats in but they were far happier going out on to the back field catching rabbits and generally being felines, my problem is that the cats were ran over early hours of the morning, when stupid idiots coming speeding down our country lane! I would not have another cat living where I do as it has proved disastrous. I personally do not feel its fair to keep a cat inside, mine used to go crazy if they were kept in for longer than a night, cats like to explore, it's their nature and I wouldn't dream of putting a lead on them like I do my dogs.
I have 2 cats and to keep them in would be near impossible. One of my cats thinks she is a dog and used to walk round the park with myself and Barnie, I would hear a miow and there she was coming out from one of the bushes (I back onto a park/wood). She soon realised there were too many dogs, she just waits at the top of the road for us to return now. But I used to have to carry her home, how stupid did i look with a dog on the lead and a cat in my arms, walking through the woods. She has a death wish but in 10 years, has never needed to go to the vet apart from routine vacinations.
Cats like to be outdoors and roam, its in their nature. They are too independant to be stuck indoors.
I am glad the news was good from the vet and hope she makes a speedy recover.
I agree Goldmali - i have four and they are all house cats, i have lost one on the roads and another from poison in the past, not to mention the trips to the vets because of cuts needing stitches so i decided it wasn't safe to let them out.
I would love to have an outdoor kennel/run for them but space is an issue for us - it is defiantly something on our list though!
Lots of love and hugs going to Jarvis - i am glad it's not too complicated and wish him a good speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear about your cat, but glad that he doesn't seem to be too badly injured. I had a kitten that got bitten by a dog and the eye was hanging out etc. as you describe ... not a nice thing to see, but he had the eye removed and was absolutely fine afterwards, although at 9 years old, you may notice him having a bit of trouble judging distance, size etc. Gretal would sometimes misjudge a table for example so would jump, but miss it lol. It's not nice to see the eye sewn up as you will do today, but when it heals it really does look fine :)
Hope his pelvis will be ok too.
Sometimes the worst thing for a for a cat in an accident is the shock, but I'm sure Jarvis will be on the receiving end of lots of tlc.
Well Jarvis will recover in time. But although he didnt need surgery on his pelvis it is still seriously damaged.
When taking him back to the vets the next morning we were told the full extent.
His pevis as been forced 2 inches up his spine and is very painfull as you can imagine. To operate would be to complicated so with small animals its better they heal with time.
For the first night at home he just laid motionless. The day latet he tried to drag himself about but kept collapsing. Very very sad to see. Cant get too far hes in a dog cage the ideal amount of room.
He as no claws left on his feet the vet thinks he dragged himself home. Thats the saddest part picturing him trying to get home. But he made it home god knows how and he will be fine in time. He is being spoilt with tuna and salmon.
