Hi all, does anyone have any tips on what i can treat my pups sore lip with? She has the angry looking sore on the edge of her lip, which she had when i picked her up, and is gradually getting worse. It seems to be spreading into a strange flower shape???!!! Her mother has acne on her chin, and a couple of her litter mates had little white spots on their heads. I've been cleaning it with tcp and only feed dry food, but she does have pigs ears and nylabones to chew on which i guess may make it worse. She's at the vets next week, but i hope i can start to get it under control before then. Any ideas?

I think you need to let your vet see this sooner rather than later. Hopefully this is nothing, as at her age it probably is, but there are some pretty nasty things that grow in mouths in what is classically called "cauliflower formation"
Crikey, i'll make an appointment tomorrow, have you any idea what causes this? As i said she came from the breeders with the sore on her mouth. Is it some form of herpes? Not sure if dogs can suffer from 'cold sores'? God i hope it dosen't spread, as it's quite an ugly looking sore. Thankfully it dosen't seem to bother her...yet.

I have no idea because I can't see it and I am not a vet :) I just know it is in the ballpark for horrible things and that's all I'm saying as most probably it's just a little sore arising from his acne but if it is something nasty the sooner it is seen the better.
Have made appointment, will let you know what the vet says!
It is an infection of the lip folds she's now on a course of antibiotics, lets hope that clears it up.

Hi caz, If that's the case you'll also need to continue to keep this clean, because it's likely to recurr. I have an Irish Setter that gets this and it smells awful. I use a solution of betadine skin antiseptic wiped over the lip folds with a cotton wool ball, on pretty much a daily basis.

Thanks Dawn, i'll get some of the solution, the vet mentioned keeping it clean as i have been doing, but on your advice, if it works for your dog, i'll do the same!
