hi there my bitch gave birth to a litter of 10 2 days ago we took the pups to have there dew claws and tails done today after arrivng home i noticed a flea on one of the pups.i know that normal flea spray is used only 12 weeks and over does anybody know of any flea stuff that can be used on very young puppies as they will end up taking over the house, very annoyed as i know they havnt caught them from my 2 older dogs but odviously from the place they have been to today.

I believe frontline spray can be used on young puppies, check with your vet. Is mum feeding them yet?

I believe Frontline (the spray, not the drops) can be used from 2 days of age.  Safest thing would be to ask the vet though.

If you are worried about the sprays or drops why don't you buy a nit comb from the chemist and brush through the pups fur? It's not as effective, but at least you don't have the 'chemical' worry.

Should have added:

have a bowl of water and a towel beside you as well ;) Once you've put the comb through the hair you will need to cover any flea with your thumb, or it will jump. You then put comb, fingers, thumb and flea into the water to drown the flea. Make sure it comes off the comb, and doesm't manage to climb the sides of the bowl. Dry the comb and put it through the hair again. Repeat until there are no more fleas :D

Pah! a flea will poke his tongue out at a bowl of cold water, what you need is hot water, near to boiling as possible ;)  but keep it away from those pups

Frontline spray (not spot on) can be used from 48hours old - then pups need to be briefly seperated from mom whilst their coats dry.

F/L Spot on should not be used on pups or pregnant/lactating bitches
