Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Castration an Option?
- By Guest [gb] Date 17.08.05 14:17 UTC
I am typing this message again as I can't find my previous one when I looked for a Reply.
Briefly, I think my lab is suffering from sever love-sickness.  He's eating fine, motions are find and want to exercise, in fact, that is part of the problem...he's at the dooe wanting to go out all the time...not the back garden door, he wants to go out out!  For the past few night we have woken to muffled whines and soft howles and whimpers and whne I come down to him, he shows no interest of wanting to go out in the garden to spend a penny....he wants to go out through the front door.  We have a dog in season a few doors down and bitches all around us (some have just been in season and one is in season).  Are these classic symptoms and should I give castration a thought (though I hate the prosepct of this as there has been no reason for it so far).

Hi Maureen,

You could try having your vet give the dog an injection of Tardak - this supresses the testosterone and (purportedly) simulates the effects of castration.  It is a temporary measure but would give you an idea as to whether or not having him castrated prevents or reduces the behaviour.

Regards, Teri
