Hi
Does anybody know of an on-line socialisation chart, that perhaps lists all sounds / items etc that a dog could be brought into contact with as part of a planned socialisation programme.
I can imagine items such as
washing machines
phones
hoovers
buses
trains
planes
other dogs
other animals
etc etc etc..
But if there was a list developed by, either experts or another experienced dog owner, this would be great.
No doubt I could make one using a spreadsheet, so thinks could be ticked off as accomplished, but I just need a little help with things to put down.
COME ON GUYS & GIRLS
If every poster tries to give 10 new socialisation items, we'll have a list to be proud of

(about to be a spotty dog dad)

I think such a lits could bog you down with the detyail rather than the principles. The idea is to expose the pup to as much as possible without overdoing it. Mine have never ben on a plane or to the airport but am sure could handle it with ease. They pretty wel go everywhere else with me, so that the odd new thing isn't going to be a big deal.
There was such a chart which you could buy in conjunction with the
Blue Cross 'sounds familiar' tape.
Mind you that was a few years ago...
A couple of important things you've forgotten is meeting people of various ages, children of various ages.
Plus different attire i.e. hats, glasses etc.
Plus also pushchairs, wheel chairs, walking sticks etc.

You see, I would never have thought about glasses, wheelchairs, hats etc. so I've learnt something new already .. after only a few minutes.
By the end of the day, there'll be 50 ... I'M SURE !
I carefully and gradually introduced my puppy to cows, sheep, horses, motorbikes, trains, buses, cats, dogs of all different sizes, areoplanes, tractors, I could go on all day. He is the most nervous, highly strung dog you could ever meet. The two rescues who were passed from pillar to post, neglected, beaten and never socialised are the friendliest most easy going dogs going. It doesn't always work! Typical of my luck that was!

:D I agree, the genes have an awful lot to do with it. My first cocker stayed at her breeder's until 12 weeks, living from 8 weeks on her own in the outside kennel she had been reared in with only sight of other dogs across the yard. It was mainly a working Springer's kennels the Cockers being an income for them, perfectly accepted in those days :) so I doubt she received much human attention during that spell either. She was the most laid back, friendly, unfazed dog we ever had. I'm sure socialisation adds to the end result though, just think how much
worse your puppy might have been if you had not made the efforts you did ;)
He's 3 now and with a lot of work he has improved. He was my first (and last!) pup but fortunately he comes from a very well known line (in obedience and agility) so I have a lot of relatives to compare him to and a couple of his brothers are a bit funny too and they went to really experienced homes so I have stopped blaming myself and accepted that it is just genetic and there is nothing more I could have done. Not much compensation for my latest little lad who gets the rough edge of his big brothers side on a daily basis. :p
I know his dad and mum, and met his grandmother, aunty, 2 uncles (one of whom is Mary Ray's famous HTM dog, Quincy), cousins and brothers and sisters before he was born so I can't even put it down to lack of research on the line! Just one of those things. :)
Add to the list men with beards &/or moustaches.
Plastic bags flapping in the wind, umbrellas, men carrying ladders, pushchairs, bicycles, skateboarders, ducks, childrens playgrounds.

Not on-line, but Gwen Bailey's "The Perfect Puppy" has a tick list at the back, where you can keep a record of all the various experiences your puppy has.
