I posted a while ago about my dog being ill after a swim in a disused copper mine then a few days later he went lame.
he had xrays at 'my' vets and they said he had 'floating mice' to indicate OCD in fact they told me he had OCD and prescribed cartrophen injections once a week for 4 weeks with no improvement normally seen until the 3rd week.
(They said it was nothing to do with the fact he had been ill days previously)
Luckily very luckily i have a very good friend experienced with my breed that said to ask for a referal which i did and my vets wasnt happy about but he was insured so i thought what the hell i'll insist.
At the consultation it was found that the 'mice' were indeed a fragment of bone/cartlidge that is more seen in 4-5% of german sheps and occasionally other breeds (nothing to worry about) and after further xrays and a camera inside his shoulder it was found that he had a very nasty infection in his shoulder (NOT OCD).
He had in all probability caught a bug THEN torn his tendon and the bacteria had a field day on it not OCD at all.
I'm absolutely disgusted that if i had followed the 'non invasive wait and see' approach of my vets i could have lost him through blood poisoning or whatever!
Phew thats off my chest :(
