hello all,
we are in the process of ringing breeders and viewing litters,I know some of the questions i should be asking, such as why the litter was bred, what else should i be asking?

Health test results.  If you want a pup to show then you might want to know how the parents have done in the ring, or if one for work then how good they were in that sphere.

Preferably the breeder should be knowledgeable in their chosen breed so that they can offer you the necesary support.  If they are a first time breeder you would want to know that they have bred with the mentoring and back up of someone very expoereinced so that they can still offer you this.

You also need to like the breeder, after all they will be your first port of call if you have any queries.

And make sure there is nothing that that says anything about 'No Known Health Problems' because that just means they haven't had the health tests done!

Your vet or the breed club of your chosen breed should be able to tell you what health checks are relevant to the breed, then you can do the research and ask the right questions.

yep what health tests both parents have had (and can they show you evidence), how many litters they breed per annum, how long they have been in the breed, what age the puppies will be going to new homes, what socialisation they have had and will have prior to going to new homes, have they been wormed, what have they been weaned on, can you see mum, there are loads and I am sure some will crop up when you speak to them  - they should also ask you lots of questions too :-)
