Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Max - weeing in the kitchen

Max is 13 weeks old and we've had him since he was born (one of Molly's pups as those of you who have read my previous posts and been so helpful with your replies will know).  He is dry overnight now and during the day no problem when I am here, always goes outside, even if he is upstairs with me he will go down to wee in the garden.  I work from home quite a bit, but sometimes have to go into the office leaving at 8a.m. and returning at 12 noon, and he has always had one, or sometimes two wees in the kitchen.  I know he is young, am I right in thinking that he's managing overnight because he's sleeping, but if left during the morining he is awake and playing with Molly and therefore not holding it as well?  Do you think I should just ignore it and assume this will stop as he gets older and his bladder becomes stronger?

Hi Carol,

You've pretty much answered your own question - YES ;)  He doesn't have bladder control yet but it will develop well over the next few weeks - you're quite right, he probably spends much of his time playing with your other dog and therefore toilets more but you're moving in the right direction and have clearly put in lots of hard slog with him which in the main has paid off :)

Regards, Teri

Thanks Teri, I'm pleased you think I'm going in the right direction! I'm working at home now till next Thursday so I'll continue with the praise when he gets it right and also shut the door for longer periods (had it open all the time with it being summer), just to make sure he does go in that direction when he wants to 'go'.
