Ordinary people names for mine - Henry, George and Ellie. My friend's dogs are often jewels - she's had Opal, Jade and Amber.
MIne are Blossom and Henri for shar-pei
Mines Arthur and in about a year when I get a little girl she will be Molly or Flo.

My Malinois bitch is Ripley because I wanted a name for a tough bitch -and the character called Ripley in the Alien films most definitely was a tough bitch!! :D Her sons are Rambo and Arnie for obvious reasons! My Golden Retrievers are usually lion related. I've had a Leo, now I have a Dandelion (shortened to Dandy), a Simba and an Elsa.
Marianne
We called our Rottie Breeze. We thought about Xena at first but though it was a little too common for this breed. When we got her home, I thought we should change her name to Satan as she was a little devil.
Our girls don't have unusual names(Chloe and Kayla)but we thought they were nice names, Kayla is feminine but not too girly..suits her down to the ground!
Idõ (pronouned e-doe) is hungarian for time and is also part of his KC name and we wanted him to have a different name so we kept it.....it really suits him and I don't know another Idõ - but then there is only one :D

Mine are all named after rivers ...Hudson, Delta and Madison :)

My baby is merlin, My first pup was called jeremy beagle and he died. I was desperate to fill the void and we were lucky enough to be put in touch with a beagle loving group of people which resulted in us findind a litter. Merls didnt have a name at all, we phoned his breeder and asked for his pedigree name, which had black knight in it. I popped this into google and the legend of king arthur popped up. It said (not a quote) merlin hired the black knight to watch king arturs nephew. I didnt read anymore. The oh wanted to call him tielk from stargate. Sod that, i dont even think thats spelt right.

My Mastiff is called Tyson, because he is the "heavyweight" of dogs!! ;-)

My first three dogs were named after cars, "Porsche"(b), "Cosworth"(d) and "Bentley"(d). Number four comes from a line traditionally named after places and she is called "Africa" (also part of her KC name). We kept a bitch puppy from her when we bred our "Naughty" litter and she is "Mayhem", again part of her KC name and one which she lives up to
very well :P
We've sort of drifted away from the car theme of late but do have a couple of ideas on stand-by ;)
regards, Teri

China, and Indiana Jones, Indy for short (or Mr Jones :)
China, because I heard someone once say 'they shouldn't have a china dog on the mantlepiece (not about me I hasten to add) and I just think it's very pretty. Indiana Jones, as we originally were going to get another GSD bitch, but erred for safety and went with a male. A girl would have been called India to go with China, so we opted for Indiana Jones.
Past dogs, Luke, Medal, Blue (bluebell) Red and Elsa
Luke - from the film Cool Hand Luke
Medal - really don't know how that happened!
Bluebell - GSD bitch, husband wanted Blue, which I felt was too Male, so made it Bluebell. Didn't matter a jot really as she ended up being Boo Boo!
Red - tiny little old mongrel - hubbys choice (think he's into colours LOL)
Elsa - after Elsa the lioness as she was exactly lion colouring and used to drag an old fur coat around as a pup, just like a kill.
Love them all to pieces
Kat

My Elsa is after Elsa the lioness as well. :)

Dogs I have at the moment
Hudson (Plumstead Spruce)
Bella (Holly of Heath)
Deacon (Breesah Enya)
Brent (Dunlookan)
Bess (Woodland Whisper)
Fliteb (Shoot Magic)
Grouse (Sharp Shot)
And a new addition last nite, Millie. (Midnight Teal)
All are black labs other than Bella who is yellow!
Laddie, rescue who was called Paddy (yuk), KC: Dilkara Destiny
Indy, KC: Woodsorrel Red Indian
Spy, rescue who was called Spike, KC: Narani Wysh Aponna Star
'Dilkara' is aboriginal for 'rainbow' as he is a tri. 'Narani' is aboriginal for 'little', because compared to the others, he is! The very famous Woodsorrel line are all red so I wanted something to do with that. It took a week for him to be named 'Indy, and then someone said, 'as in Red Indian? I said no, but it is now! ;)
I personally cannot stand human names for dogs and like anything different. Laddie was named after Lassie, my childhood hero. I loved the name Indy and at the time had never heard of another one. Spy was just shortened Spike as he was originally called Oscar and I felt he had had enough changes already, me being his 6th home on 8 months.

I have Thai who was named 'Diva' when I got her but I hated it so my OH some how came up with Thai (aka, Boomy, Bom, Tizer, Thai bo, boom shank, darling, baby girl and mummy to Bali) and it suits her down to the ground, I always wanted a pup called Java but thought it was a little girly for a dog which is what I kept from the litter so I called him Bali (aka Marmite, Derik, Del boy, Mali, ba ba, main man and handsome) - all the pups KC names are Asian related countries (well of that area) so I had Java, Bali, India, China, Tibet, Nepal, Fiji and Asia :) Going to call my next dog Dawson as it incorporates all our passed over cats initials :)
Also Had a
Collie x called Sandy (black and tan)
Lab x collie called Becky (pure balck)
Lab x Collie x GSd called Misty (she was brown ish)
GSD called Axie (KC name had Axie Rose in it)

Our most unusual are Pudding for one of our GSP bitches and Flea for one of the Min Pins!
The rescue dogs often come with no name so we look at them and try to see what suits them. Hence:
Dodger (because he was so artful and agile)
Riffy (Brummy slang for flea-ridden)
Zak (because I couldn't stand his previous name, 'King' - he so isn't)
Miss Thing (because she's black and thinks she's 'all that' just like her owner)
Titch (miniature poodle)
Max (huge long-coated GDS who was just the most dog I'd ever seen, the maximum)
All of the dogs we ever had were older rescues so they already had their names, except a GSD pup who was called Zeus, and a Lab pup called Tyson.
All the other's were
Apollo - Next doors GSD, that just slept, ate, played etc. at our house for nearly 5 years!
Zeus - GSD, Apollo didn't take kindly to the little puppy and it was getting to the point where the pup was in danger, so my uncle 'rescued' him from Apollo.
Carley - Another GSD, that turned up from somewhere!!
Ben - BC if I had to choose a fav, he was it, lovely old dog :D
Kym - Jack Russel, she was my sisters pup, who ended up with us after my sister had her baby. Kym was useless with little children, and was a very moody old girl!
Tyson - the Lab pup was lovely, he was called Tyson because we had an old cat called Boxer. He ended up having to go to my uncle as well, for my mums health had deteriated.
We have nearly decided on Ozzy for our pup we are getting, because he is an Aussie, and because Ozzy is in his KC name. Absolutely nothing to do with Ozzy Osbourne I'm affraid!

Pippin yankee....named Pippin after the character in Lord of the Rings, the funny hobbit! :D It suits my little boy perfectly, he is the exact same character! (but thankfully he is not a hobbit...that is more where I come in....:D )
Carol :)
I have come across lots of methods but one for larger breeds I liked was their dogs were named after beers.
Murphy, Guiness, Brown, Bud, and even Tiger after the asian beer. They all suited their names as Murphy was dark with some fawn colouring so on and so forth. I knew a family that had great danes and they were called Sven and Erik that always made me smile.

All mine are named after places in America. When I got Vegas just over 3 years ago, I hadn't heard of another dog with that name. Now in the past year alone, I've met another 3 (all bitches mind you, but it's not the point!!). It's becoming so common, I might as well have called him Rover ;-). The other two are Dallas & Disney
I like butch names for little dogs ( yorkies etc), like Rambo.
And pretty names for so called macho dogs.
My staffs are,
Poppy
Taz
Mia
My DDB is Ruby
I always try not to give human names - I dont fancy standing in the park shouting 'dave'!
Hook - came from hook norton was going to be called norton but somehow it just didint feel right.
Truffle - was going to be callled diddy becasue she came from Diddington, but I like naming gun dogs after things in nature and as she was a little brown nugget, who smelt georgious when we first met her, Truffle seemed ideal.
Hubby wants to name the next Atom after the aeriel atom, being a petrol head. I refused to allow bentley or porsche as we have friends whose children have those names.

Rocky -- name he came with.
Dill -- was going to be called Chorley after where he came from, but ended up being a herb after Dawn B's dog Parsley who sadly had to be pts due to a back injury (am i right Dawn??)
Abby - came to me named Gabby which i didnt think suited her, so i dropped the G
Pteppic -- oddest name, after teh character in the terry pratchet book Pyramids, Pteppic is an Assassin and also the King of Djelibeybi (his litter sister is called Djelibeybi).
Em

First Munster was Addison after Bruce Willis's character in Moonlighting - Addison's KC name contained Moonlighting in it.
Asti (No.2) because I wanted something beginning with 'A' and it was suggested to me by a long time freind! ;)
Miranda (No.3)- that is part of her KC name (All Shakespearean KC names), she was intended for export to Austria where they call their munsters by their registered names.
Mia (No. 4) - because it's Latin for 'mine' which I thought was so feminine (I got a tomboy!) and it's short for Hermia, part of her KC name (Again from Shakespeare)
Curtis (No.5) - again a Shakespearean name and I thought whoever bought him could shorten it to Curt which sounded German to me.............he stayed here though!

Oh where in Hooky as we are just up the road from there :)
I thought you had a Peter Pan Fettish :D :D
We named our first Mars Bar , Mars as she was known, then Minstrel, Min as she was known (blimey hard to say as she was known :( ) .
We then have Moose (chocolate Mousse) and the MB2 (Mars Bar 2) who is now known as Dudley :)
Lucy

(All chocolate Labs )
Hi Lucy
Sorry to hear about Min. I know her time had come but it dosent make it any easier :(
Hook came from a farm that we had dreadfull difficulty in locating. All I can remember is driving round in circles and even the post office having trouble giving directions (and I hadnt even stopped off at the Hook Norton brewery!). If it helps his kennel name is Haffotty, which is apparently welsh for farm at the foot of the hill.
Truffle has just helped herself from the apple trees heavily laden branches, and without me noticing bought it in to the house. However she has just discovered whey Hook waits for them to fall and the look on her face is a picture, cos she cant work out why it dosent taste like apple :D

My shelties are called Heidi, Basil (couldn't think what to call him and he looked just like Basil Brush) and Darcy (not very tall, but dark and handsome). My papillon is Iris (white and redish brown just like the flower). Don't know why I bother though as they've all got nicknames such as da da or doddy man (Darcy) and Brushy (Basil)

My toy poodle's called Roxy (after the Rocky Horror Picture Show - would have been Rocky if she'd been a boy). I like big butch names for silly little dogs! :D If we'd known our last one (15 years ago) was a boy (long story!) I'd have called him Tyson, but instead he ended up being called Tuppence cos my dad said he wasn't quite the full shilling.
