Hi Nicke

I should think if it's foolproof more of us would have known about it and done it - there's many an experienced breeder who prefers to adopt a wait-and-see approach as to whether a bitch has taken or not and I've not heard any recommend this method -  but hey your cousin maybe onto something that's eluded multitudes before her ;)

Good luck with your imminent arrivals,
Regards, Teri :)

I could see my bitch was pregnant this time by 4 1/2 weeks (had her checked for pregnancy a week earlier), and by 5 weeks she had a very obvious pregnancy belly.  She looked huge and went on to have 7 pups, just an average number for the breed, whereas shw looked like she might have more.  for ehr first litter she looked quite big, yet only had 4.

Think about it 9 weeks for bitches 9 months for humans.  In many women you can see they are pregnant at 4 1/2 to 5 months, in others you can't especialy if they are big girls or wear lots of loose clothing.

On the other hand at 5 weeks pregnanct I was sure that one of my girls was either not in whelp or was carrying a small litter.  she showed no signs of being pregnant and was very slim.  she went on to have 9 puppies.

There are women who never know they are pregnant until they ae in labour and even the doctors se no signs until this, and many a bit6ch ahs confounded Vet and owner in this way.

That is very interesting Nicke. Waiting and wondering until 6 weeks or more with my girls just kills me and I would love to know a little more about this. Can you explain exactly how you are holding the dog? Are you taking her front paws and standing her up on her back legs or picking her up in the air with your arms around her chest (under her armpits)? I wonder if this will work as well for a big dog like a Labrador. Hmmm very interesting - thanks! :)
