i have been told that we can claim free 6 week insurance when we collect millie in 3 weeks is this only if you agree to take out there insurance. I was planning on taking out m&s insurance soon as any advice please thanks sandy

Your breeder should have automatically registered your pup in your name for the free 6 week insurance by the time your collect your pup.  No you don't have to carry it on after the 6 weeks, you can still apply to M&S

Hi you now have to set up a direct debit before you get your 6 weeks free insurance, and then have to remember to cancel it. Never used to be like that.

I have just got a Shih tzu pup 3 weeks ago and on the change of ownership form I ticked that I wanted the 6 weeks free insurance, I also recieved my policy and I have never given them any of my bank details, as I was under the impression you got the free insurance once you gave your details also.

I've just registered 2 litters of pups for their free insurance, under their new owners names, didn't have to give any bank details just names, address and telephone numbers.  They've all had their paper work though and no mention of bank details for DD

Major mistake to provide ANY banking details or credit/debit card info - I know of 2 cases in my own breed where the KC automatically lifted the premiums from accounts because the registered owners had NOT ticked the box to say they DID NOT WANT their insurance cover to continue

The form, certainly last year when I registered my litter, is IMO very badly worded and set out regarding insurance but fortunately I'd already had the matter drawn to my attention and personally investigated it further hence I paid for my registrations etc by cheque.

If the format is still the same as then, anyone having reason to register a litter or transfer ownership should bear in mind that the best method of payment is by cheque only - should there be any doubt as to whether the registered owner wishes to take up additional services, the KC would then need to contact same as there is no way of collecting premiums without further instructions or clarification.  Regards, Teri :)

Unless it's changed recently, I've always found their insurance very expensive for the cover that they give.
Whilst we're not allowed to recommend any particular insurance these days, I find the new 6 week Petplan system extremely convenient to do on line, and I "suggest" that my new owners "might like to investigate M&S amongst others when they look into insurance"! ;)

I had this brought to my attention before we collected our first pup, so have always paid by cheque. It is certainly good advice to give.
