Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Advice needed for judging
- By Guest [gb] Date 05.08.05 08:16 UTC
hi, I have been asked to help at a small companion show this weekend by judging a Triers class in obedience. Has anyone here any experiance of this. My main concern is how to score the stays if a dog moves. do they lose all their points?
For instance, Down stay for 2 minutes (20 points) if the dog gets up after say 30 seconds  how may points should he lose?

Also, what part do my steward and myself play in the Stay exercises?

Just feeling a tadge anxious and want to get it right. i would be very grateful for anyone who may have previous experiance or know someone who does.

In fact any helpful tips would equaly be appreciated.

LOl I've been an obedience judge for over 30 years if you join I can send you a marks breakdown for stays, the marks have to graduated so basically divide the number of marks into the number of seconds & you get 6 seconds per point so if a dogs gets up at 30 seconds in the down it will have gained 5 points(or lost 15 ;) )

You must be in the ring during the stays & the chief stay steward should ask you how you want the stays done(handlers to face dogs etc)

I presume you mst have competed & this is your first go at judging(& not your last I hope as we are in sore need of new judges in obedience). A good idea for judges & competitors is to buy the Obedience regs booklet from the KC, bit late for you now tho'
