Boxers are not my breed, but I would have thought that 5 is a bit too old to have a first litter and also if she is small for her breed this could also cause her problems, you should only breed from dogs that are as near to the breed standard as possible.

Are you using a maiden dog? If you are and as your bitch is also a maiden it could just be that they just don't quite know what they are soppose to do, dogs will play before they mate, all mine have always got to know each other before the mate.

Buy some books on boxers and breeding and rearing puppies as this will give you an insight to what is involved in breeding a litter and the months of dedication and money that is needed in rearing puppies, its not an easy and far from cheap hobby, and if done correctly, definatley not a way of making a few quid.

Why don't you join champdogs and the members will be able to give you advice on what health tests you need for your breed and you will learn a lot about what is involved in breeding, both the ups and the downs, as well as general doggy advice that you may find helpful. :)

Also your bitch would need to be Hip scored and have a heart score of 0 or 1.  I am assuming these tests were carried out before you tried mating her before.

With her age and smal size I would not risk having a litter.

Why not go back to her breeder and get a related pup?  It will cost you a lot less and you will be responsible for the life of only one pup not a whole litter for which you would have lifelong responsibility, and little influence on their lives.
