do you let prospective owners look at a litter - not pick a puppy but just look at the litter? I have been advised 5/6 weeks to pick a puppy but I am very concerned as people who have names on a list want to see the litter sooner than 5/6 weeks. Thank you in advance.
I looked at my puppy at 5 weeks then took him home at 6 weeks. Other ppl who were having pups went to see them at 3/4 weeks and chose then. I had the last one so I just went to meet him really.

I will allow people to come as soon as they like if they haven't got a long journey. If they live a long way away I suggest they come from 4 weeks once the pups are really on theri feet playing and have developed their personalities.
My bitches just love showing off their babies and are not worried about people visiting.
I actually prefer people come when they are younger than 6 weeks as I know that they have all theri Mums passive immuntiy and it hasn't waned to any great degree. The time I get worried about infection is once pups are more or less weaned.
I personally dont let them come until at least 4 weeks that is because I want to know they have some sort of hearing and they are progressing at a satisfactory rate. Plus my girls hate people looking at the puppies until they leave. I dont know why but they are quite protective. I had a westie once who couldnt care less about her puppies so I suppose it depends on your dogs nature.
They come to see the pups on the 4th week and then take them home on the 7th.
I don't let anyone handle the pups until they have been vaccinated. After going through a terrible ordeal of an entire litter become infected with parvo after allowing the new owners to visit the pups, I have learned my lesson and now I make people wait until the puppies have been vaccinated. It just isn't worth taking any chances with their health. I also choose the puppies for my families rather than have them try to determine what the true personalities are in an hour or two. I have spent the last few months with the pups so I know them best and can make a good match that way. My pups don't leave until they are 8 or 9 weeks old and they get their first shots at 8 weeks. Most people don't mind waiting.

My vet won't vaccinate till 10 weeks, so that wouldn't work for me!
I allow strangers to view the litter from 5 weeks, when they're developing personalities, and still have a lot of mum's antibodies circulating. Family and our other dogs will have been visiting before then, of course, and children socialising with them.

First visit 4 weeks, then the pups leave between 7-8 weeks we have had no problems in 30 years. fingers crossed
I visited my pups litter at 2 wks, mainly to judge the mothers temperament and health, and to meet the breeder properly than to handle pups. Then went again at 4 wks, had a little cuddle, at 6 wks to pick a pup, and bring her home at 8 wks, which is next week! I'm sooooo excited, i can't sleep! I live in the same city as breeder so it's easy to do so, and the breeder hasn't minded one bit, and we now have a pretty good relationship. It was also useful to go early as the breeder had a good idea which pup would suit our family, and his choice was the same as mine in the end.

Thanks Caz4674 I have never looked at it as an opportunity of building up a relationship with the breeder.

I allow owners to come and see at four weeks then encourage them to visit every weekend if they want to .

We went to see/choose our puppy at 5 weeks. Then went to collect him at 7 weeks. I would have liked to visit more often, but it was a 6 hour trip there, and then 6 hours back again!!
