HI, I TOOK MY LITTER OF GOLDIES FOR THEIR 1ST JAB AND VET CHECK, ALL PASED WITH FLYING COLOURS EXCEPT THE BITCH I AM KEEPING, WHO WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A SLIGH HEART MURMUR, ON TAKING HER BACK FOR 2ND JAB TWO WEEKS LATER, THE VET (DIFFERENT ONE) SAID IT WAS A SIGNIFICANT HEART MURMUR AFFECTING BOTH CHAMBERS, (SOUNDED LIKE A WASHING MACHINE WAS HOW SHE PUT IT), NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE, REALLY UNSURE OF WHAT TO EXPECT, WHERE TO GO FOR ADVICE, SHOULD SHE BE FOUND A FABULOUS PET HOME WITH THE HOPE OF LIVING A LONG HAPPY LIFE (MUST BE SPAYED), DO DOGS GROW OUT OF MURMURS? ANY HELP OR ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY RECEIVED. THANKS.

How old is she and how expert is the vet at diagnosing heart murmers. As puppies are often ahving their jabs earlier than they used to innocent murmers that later go are often picked up whwereas previously if not vaccinated until 10 weeks or so they may never have been found.
I would ask for a referal to a veterinary cardiologist. If the Murmer is so significant that it will shorten her life expectancey or quality of life then I don't think it would be moral to let her go to anyone else.
THANKS FOR YOUR QUICK REPLY. JUST SPOKE AGAIN TO VET, HE'S GOING TO GET COSTINGS ON SENDING HER TO A VET CALL MARK PATTESON IN DURSLEY, GLOUCESTER WHO IS A SPECIALIST IN THIS FIELD, HE'LL PROBABLY WANT TO ECG AND SCAN HER, SO I NEED TO SEE THE LIKELY COST OF THIS. YOU'DE NEVER KNOW SHE HAD IT, SHES AS BIG AS THE OTHERS, EATS WELL, PLAYS WELL, ITS SUCH A PITY. I AGREE WITH THE RE-HOMING PART, I JUST THOUGHT IT MAY WORK IF SOMEONE WANTED A GOLDIE FOR A PET, AND WAS PREPARED FOR WOT MAY COME, BUT SHE'LL PROBABLY STAY WITH ME ANYHOW. I JUST WANT TO DO WOTS BEST FOR HER. I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED.

Yes I think you should keep her, especially if there is a problem. Goldens do have serious heart problems, but saying that many many puppies have heart murmurs that disappear. Good luck with the specialist, I hope its not serious.
Dawn.
Glad you are getting a second oppinion - we had a cat we were told had a heart murmer, it turns out that when they are stressed it sometimes makes their heart beat so fast that is sounds as if they have a murmer.

Hello there. I had the pleasure of owning a golden retriever bitch whom i bought as a pup.She exercised well, ate well and seemed fine in every way. We had her spayed at 6months and she recovered quickly from this. HOWEVER when she was due for her yearly jabs (so she was just turned 1 year) the vet said she could hear a heart murmur. We were very worried and the vet arranged for further tests at the royal veeterinary college. The news was very bad with us being told to only exercise her on lead and she had 13 tablets to have every day. Our girl died when she was 21/2 years old, very sudden and quick thank god. PLEASE do not let anyone have her as a pet as i still remember well the heartache when our seemingly healthy pup was diagnosed with many heart problems. ON A MUCH HAPPIER NOTE WE ARE NOW THE PROUD OWNERS OF A BLACK LAB OF 14 WEEKS. Hope your pups heart problems are not severe ones
