Hi could anyone give me advise on the prevetion and treatment of hay mites.

Hi do you mean Harvest Mites. if you do then Frontline spray usually sees the little blighters off

Im sure my vet called them hay mites but your probably right my memory isnt what it used to be, thanks i have got some frontline spray so will give that a try, my vet suggested a thorough inspection and physicaly removing the mites after going out for walks this sounds a bit like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Hay mites are usually what Guinea pigs get and they cause the guinea pig to lose its hair and go bald in extreme cases if not treated early enough by a few injections at the vet.

I second frontline, my bitch got harvest mites badly last year and the spray cleaned it right up.
