do you need a licence to breed dogs ? if so is it only over a certain amount of dogs as how come a couple who decide to breed there dog dont get into trouble

If you breed five or more litter of puppies in any 12 month perios you are required to ahve a licence.  A Council may require a breeder to be licenced even if they breed fewer litters if theya re considered to be breeding as a business.

hi brainless i know nothing about breeding , how many litters can a dog have a year is it one ? so really you would have to have 5 bitches sorry if im wrong ive never had anything to do with bitches and breeding

Most people woudl only breed fro any oen bitch for say a couple of litters in her life.  Our breed club allows for up to four, but in practice few would have as many as that.  I ahve ahd two or 3 litters from my girls.

Except for exceptional circumstances a bitch shoudl have a year at lest between litters.  Occasionally if a bitch has had a singletone pup a second litter might be acceptable on ehr next season, especially if time is runing out for her or it was difficult to get her in whelp to start with.

Someone could have five bitches as I do but only breed from one for two of them, or they may have two or three who they exploit and mate every season.

If you get a nice bitch you can both learn together, and if she comes from a good breeder they wil be more thah pleased to help you learn.

Then in a few years if you feel you both have something to contribute to the breed you may with their help perhaps breed a litter of your own.
