Topic Dog Boards / Health / Worm tablets
- By bagel [gb] Date 20.07.05 08:38 UTC
Hi, my dog is a year old and had tablets to stop worms from the vets when I got him a month ago (Drontal I think).  I now have a letter from the vet saying he needs some more, since I don't have much faith in the vet at the moment I had three questions -

Is it a good idea to give these tablets all the time to prevent worms rather than just as a cure (I assume so but not sure how common worms are in dogs?)

Do you have to get these from the vet or can they be bought elsewhere, e.g. off internet?

Which do you think are the best tablets?

Thanks :-)

Worms are very common in dogs, and the usual practice is to give a dose of worming treatment every three months. I use Drontal, as it's effective against both roundworm and tapeworm, and buy it from Vet-medic.

Thanks Jeangenie, this looks like a good site and cheaper than getting them from the vet :-)

I just ordered some Drontal from Vet-Medic as they are much cheaper than my vet charges. They arrived very quickly considering I'm in N. Ireland (which might as well be just North of Mars as far as some companies are concerned ). I ordered on Friday and they were delivered Tuesday morning.
