Hi i would take him straight the vet.  Is he lame?  Also what type of surface does he sleep on?

Warm regards Susan

Agree with Susan if he sleeps outside etc. this could be the reason, best to take to the vet though and have him checked over.

thanks for the reply. at night he sleeps in a dog bed but during the day he just lies down on any surface ( grass , concrete or wood) because he lives outside.

You need to put something soft down, like a fleece or even a blanket because it's not good for their joints lying on hard surfaces, and the way big dogs throw themselves on the floor when they lie down he could have damaged his elbow so i'd definitely take him the vet and get them to check him over.  Enviroment plays a part in hip displasia and elbow problems so you really do need to get a foam bed in a plastic basket to safe guard his joints if you wont a healthy dog.

Warm regards susan
