As we are collecting our nearly new car in two weeks, I am looking for some form of protection for the back (estate). I've seen a sort of waterproof mat with edges, does anyone know of any good products they can recommend.

Depends on what sort of car it is. I have a Mercedes estate and in this there is a large plastic tray that fits inside the boot and comes up the sides. In this I put some offcuts of carpet to make it a bit more comfy for the boys. I think most car manufacturers make these type of things: it certainly keeps the back of the car drier.

Lintran do boot liners for cars, i have an escort estate and i bought one for it, it is made of rigid plastic and it covers the sides of the boot up to the window and the top of the back seats, it keeps all the dirt in it, cost around £170, i would have bought one from ford but they dont make them anymore and it would have been half the price, but i like to protect my car so i had to have one.
Hi Lorna
Decided against a 4WD then? So have I and am keeping my van instead - more room for the dogs <g>

Depending on the type of car, you can also get scratch protectors that protect the top of the bumper. Mine doesn't have one :( and the bumper (where they land when they jump in) is all scratched down to the bare plastic.

Try popping into Halfords and I am sure they will be able to give you some good advice.
