Lily, my West Highland Terrier has started to bite her legs resulting her loosing the hair on the fronts of her front legs and the skin becoming red, which looks most unsightly and sore.
Has anyone come across this before, and if so what steps did you take to prevent and resolve the matter?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Has she had a change in diet? If not I would see how she goes for a few days then take her to the vet if things dont get better by themselves. It could be caused by 101 things. She could have an allergy to certain foods, pollen or anything else you can think of!
Let me know how she gets on.

My westie bailey kept gnawing and licking his paws especially when he slept upstairs at night. I had started to use shake n vac on bedroom carpets heard that this can cause allergies.
We had a dog that was constantly gnawing her legs, and this extended to her feet.We had a little success with Mycil athletes foot powder, they also make it in spray form, the Vet said that Mycil is,OK on dogs feet..However the eventual diagnosis turned out to be Diabetes.

Our Bichon has been doing this since about April and he did it last year as well (he pulled all the hair out of his bottom and looked like a baboon :-() He seems to stop doing this around October. I give him piriton and the vet says it is safe to give him up to 3 a day 8 hours apart although he says for some reason it doesn't work as well in dogs as humans but you could give it a try.
