Topic Dog Boards / General / toys for a GSD puppy...
- By NannyOgg [gb] Date 15.07.05 14:49 UTC
I am trying to decide what toys to get for my GSD puppy. I have a puppy kong and an adult kong already )got the adult one too as I know they grow so fast!) I also already have a ragger. What other toys are good for this breed of dog/for a puppy? I don;t want to get too many toys as I know this can cause some problems, so if someone could advise me how many toys to go for, and suggests types of toys, I would appreciate it.

You can never have too many toys! :D
Get all different sorts and keep most of them put away.  Then change them regularly.  You'll soon find out what sort your pup prefers and treats as favourites but a variety is interesting and fun.
I like the balls on a rope best and the raggers.  Tough toys with a squeak are fun (for the dog!) and ones that float.

Hi NannyOgg :)

It is also suggested that you rotate their toys - (except if they have a favourite) to keep them stimulated - so give them say 5 toys to play with in one week, then swap them for a different 5 the following week.

Plastic fizzy drink bottles are a good one for them to chew on (but ensure you remove the cap first).

Happy to show you a list of some of the ones that I've got for Fern if that would help you.

I would love to know what you got for Fern (I should have known you would be very organised!!!)

Beautiful pictures of Honey's litter by the way, really beautiful looking pups.

Rotating sounds a really good idea.

:) No problem, will get that list to you - you've done well on the kong front for sure - have you seen the kong recipes?

http://www.companyofanimals.co.uk/kongrecipe.php can't wait to try some of them out  :)

Most of the Kong recipes that were on this site recently sounded so good I would expect my partner to be stealing the kong from the puppy! He will rpobably wonder why the puppy gets fed better than he does!

I would recommend the puppy teething keys (for large size dog). I've no idea why the pups like them so (obviously they feel good on their gums though). But my little lad loves them, and has been known to fall asleep with them in his mouth (aaah bless). Other than that, all my shepherds have loved plush toys, preferably with a squeak, but you can't really leave them alone with them in case they eat the stuffing, and they can't have har 'eyes'. My older girls favourite is a big plush strawberry, that makes an 'errrr' sound when squeezed!
