Hi Teresa, we are almost all of us in the UK, so not able to help. However you are right to avoid puppymills, but you are still entitled to a top quality healthy puppy as a pet. Good luck in your search.

Hi Teresa! Your best bet is to contact the AKC and ask for details of breed clubs of the particular breed you're interested in. They should be able to tell you of reputable breeders - you're quite right to avoid pet shops and puppy mills. Good luck!
